Fly-In Canoe Trips

Aimed at those individuals with limited time, who want to enjoy a rare wilderness experience, while expecting the outfitting, guiding, and travel arrangements to be well done.

Upon your Thursday afternoon arrival at the Minneapolis airport, a limousine will have you quickly connecting with your private jet-prop service north to Ely, Minnesota. Our van will first bring you to our base for a quick briefing, and then into town for dinner with your guide, John Myhre. Overnight accommodations are here at North Country. Friday morning breaks to see the start of your 3 full days 3 nights of guided wilderness canoe trip experience. Trips can be as laid-back or aggressive as you want them to be. Your trip goals are the center point of the trip itinerary.

If you would prefer to take photographs instead of fish, we can design a trip for you, too, in this photographer’s paradise. From waterfalls to wildlife, from loons to lily pads, you will have a treasure of images to take home.

Or, if you just want to experience one of National Geographic’s top rated places to visit during your lifetime, with someone who cherishes it as much as you do, John is the guide to do it. And, if you want to become an outdoor gourmet chef along the way, just ask him if he’ll teach you as he prepares your meals. He’d be glad to let you in on the fine points and secrets to his success.

Your adventure can center around fishing for the best of our smallmouth bass, walleye, or northern pike. John, an accomplished wilderness fishing guide in his own rite, has also honed his fly-fishing skills at the Orvis Fishing School in Idaho. Whether your preferences lean towards spinning reels, casting gear, or a fly rod, John can steer you towards wilderness fishing success. Fishing trips are best done with an odd number of clients.  This allows for two to a canoe when the guide is added to the party number.

A specially selected menu and the best of our canoeing/camping equipment are provided thru your final breakfast on Monday morning. After packing-up camp, you will return to North Country’s base to clean up. You then enjoy return air service and transfer to the Minneapolis Airport. (And, of course, your choices from our deli lunch menu will be on board the aircraft.)

This package is exclusively for your individual party only; we are not grouping you with strangers. We can only accept one reservation per week; availability is limited. Reserve early. Non-refundable deposit is $750/person

Our per person rates below include:

Minneapolis airport transfers to/from the Anoka Airport, round trip air to/from Ely with hospitality service, pre-trip meals and accommodations, equipment and food outfitting, fishing licenses as needed for the duration of the trip, state and local taxes and fees, along with your guide’s wages (which are split from the invoice and paid directly to John Myhre). Any gratuity to the guide or outfitter are at your sole discretion.
